Carlo Ciucchi aka "Picchio" was born in Dicomano (Fi), the town where he still lives and works today. He showed the first signs of a vocation for painting as early as elementary and middle school, when he won
some school exhibitions. In 1968 the painter Paolo Galli, friend and fellow villager, encouraged Carlo Ciucchi Picchio to begin his artistic journey.
He graduated in 1977 from the Porta Romana State Art School in Florence in the "Pictorial Decoration" section.
In 1978 he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence in the "Painting" section with Prof. Silvio Loffredo and in the same year he attended the "free school of nude art" at the Academy of Fine Arts.
He attended the studios of the masters Silvestro Pistolesi and Alfio Rapisardi and with the latter he also gained experience in the art of sculpture. He met Prof. Armando Nocentini and worked for a short period with the painter Ennio Cocchi. He is followed by the painters Armando Grazzini, Luciano Ori. Master Pietro Annigoni encouraged him to undertake the exciting painting from life. The young Picchio worked in the "Annigonian" school for decades.
From 1972 to today he has participated in countless collective exhibitions of painting, sculpture and international art awards in Italy and abroad. His works can be found in important private collections in Italy, Germany, Argentina and the United States.
In 2002 at the Palagio di Parte Guelfa, sponsored by the Municipality of Florence, with the participation of Dr. Eugenio Giani, the poet Mario Luzi and the historian Luciano Artusi, it presented the exhibition and monograph "Thirty-five years of painting and sculpture". In the same year he joined the Antica Compagnia del Paiolo presented by President Giuliano Borselli and from 2016 to 2019 he held the position of Secretary of the "Visual Arts" section. In recent years he has executed important mural paintings, frescoes and sculptures.
In 2007 he was awarded the title of Knight of Malta in Assisi, in 2008 of Knight Templar. Appointed by Prof. Giorgio Cegna, former director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.
During the Christmas periods 2020, 2021, 2022 he exhibited the sculpture "The Tree of Covid Words" in his hometown, in Piazza D'uomo in Florence and on the island of Procida (NA), with the publication of the book of the same name.
In 2018, work began on seven installations related to the environment and humanity "Our wonderful Planet is dying".
In 2022 the Scribo publisher publishes a book with the works "Our wonderful Planet is dying" and they are exhibited for the first time at Procida Capitale Della Cultura Italiana 2022. This will become a traveling exhibition.
In 2023 “Our wonderful Planet is dying” will be exhibited in Timisoara, European Capital of Culture 2023.
Also in 2023 “Our wonderful Planet is dying” is exhibited in Florence on the banks of the Arno at the Circolo Canottieri.
In 2024 one of his works will be exhibited at the Venice Biennale. International Art Exhibition.
He receives the following awards:
2016 “Collare Laurenziano” in the Salone del 500 in Florence
2021 “Ponte Vecchio Award” Villa Caruso in Signa
2022 “Silver Pegasus” by the Governor of Tuscany Eugenio Giani at Procida Capital of Italian Culture 2022.
2023 International Literary and Art Award, Lifetime Achievement Award “New eyes on Mugello”
